Animatronics and puppets |
Everyone knows
what puppetry is. The various techniques used by puppeteers (strings,
rods, and hand manipulation) are useful in bringing creatures to life. |
The term
animatronics is used when mechanical devices are incorporated within a
mask, body suit or creature to create motion. The means to achieve motion vary from low-tech push-pull cables |
(similar in function to brake and gear cables on bicycles) to radio-controlled animatronics for which a pre-set series of commands is delivered by a computer to small servo-motors acting as muscles within the suit. | |
